A viral video circulating on social media falsely claims that Iran’s state television accused Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir of playing a “double game” during recent diplomatic talks involving Iran and the United States.

However, the claim is completely false and misleading.

What Was Claimed?

The misinformation began spreading after several users on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and TikTok shared a short Persian-language clip from an Iranian TV broadcast.

The viral posts claimed that Iranian state media openly accused Field Marshal Asim Munir of secretly working against Iran while acting as a mediator between Tehran and Washington.

One viral post stated:

“Iran’s state TV channel is now accusing Field Marshal Asim Munir by name, alleging that he is playing a double game with Iran.”

The clip quickly gained massive attention online, with thousands of views, likes, and reposts.

Reality: The Claim Is False

A detailed review of the original broadcast proves that no such accusation was made.

The video was traced back to a programme aired on IRINN, Iran’s state-run news channel, and later uploaded by Iranian streaming platform Telewebion on April 20.

The original segment discusses diplomatic developments and backchannel talks between Iran and the United States. During the discussion, the anchor mentions Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Iran on April 18 and says he was expected to convey Iran’s proposals to the United States.

At no point in the broadcast did the host accuse Pakistan’s army chief of playing a “double game.”

TV Host Also Denies Viral Claims

The host of the programme, Sarbaz Rezvi, also publicly rejected the misinformation.

In a post on X, he clarified:

“I am the host of this program and I understand Urdu. The caption on the viral post is an absolute lie. I never said that Asim Munir is playing a double game with Iran.”

He further stated that the claims being spread online were entirely false and taken out of context.

Verdict

The viral claim is fake and misleading.

Iranian state television did not accuse Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir of playing a “double game.” The original broadcast only discussed diplomatic communication and mediation efforts, while the viral captions falsely distorted the content of the video.
