OpenAI Alleges Former Employee Took Secret Device Files to Apple
Published On 15 Oct, 2026
9 News HD: OpenAI has accused a former employee who returned to Apple of taking more than 100 files about an unreleased device. The claim was made in a court filing as the legal dispute between the two companies continues.
According to OpenAI, the files included pictures of the device, engineering details, manufacturing information, supplier details, and other private project documents. The company claims the employee sent these files to personal accounts on his last day at OpenAI in June 2026.
OpenAI also alleges that the former employee later presented information about its product plans to senior Apple leaders. The company is concerned that its private information could be used in the development of Apple’s future AI products.
The case comes as both companies are working on new technology and AI-powered devices. Apple recently introduced its HomeView product, which has added attention to the ongoing dispute.
However, Apple has denied that there is evidence to support OpenAI’s claims. The company said it has rules to make sure new employees do not use confidential information from their previous jobs. Apple also said its checks had found no OpenAI files on its systems.
The disagreement is part of a wider legal battle that began when Apple accused former employees of taking its confidential information to OpenAI. OpenAI has denied Apple’s earlier claims.
The case highlights growing competition between the two companies in AI and consumer devices. The allegations have not yet been proven in court, and the legal dispute is expected to continue.
