9 News HD: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in the first T20I at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday. Captain Sahibzada Farhan scored 89 runs, while Maaz Sadaqat made a quick half-century to help Pakistan chase the target of 183 runs. With this win, Pakistan took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Sri Lanka batted first and scored 182 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. The visitors lost two early wickets, but Lahiru Udara helped them recover with a strong innings. He scored 91 runs off 55 balls, including 10 fours and four sixes. Udara also shared important partnerships with his teammates to take Sri Lanka to a good total.
For Pakistan, Naseem Shah took three wickets for 36 runs. Mohammad Imran also impressed with two wickets, while Saim Ayub, Abrar Ahmed and Razaullah picked up one wicket each.
Pakistan started the chase quickly as Farhan and Fakhar Zaman added 54 runs in the first five overs. Fakhar scored 21 off 13 balls before getting out. Maaz Sadaqat then joined Farhan, and the pair added 92 runs for the second wicket.
Sadaqat scored 50 off 29 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes. Farhan continued his strong batting and made 89 off 53 balls, with 10 fours and four sixes. His innings kept Pakistan close to the target, even as Sri Lanka took a few wickets in the later overs.
Farhan got out with Pakistan needing only four more runs. After a few more wickets fell, Khawaja Nafay and Mohammad Imran helped the team finish the chase. Pakistan reached 187 for six in 18.5 overs and won the match with seven balls left.
The second T20I will be played on October 11, followed by the third match on October 13. Both games are scheduled to take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
