Viral Claims About Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s Engagement to Austrian Princess Debunked

Social media claims that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is engaged or set to marry Austrian Archduchess Gloria von Habsburg are false, according to a fact-check.

Several social media posts recently circulated images allegedly showing Bilawal Bhutto Zardari with Gloria von Habsburg and claimed that the two were engaged.

However, Bilawal himself rejected the reports, saying that he does not know any “Princess Gloria” and that no engagement or marriage has taken place.

The claims began circulating widely on social media in late August 2026. Posts on Facebook and Instagram alleged that Bilawal was going to marry former Austrian Archduchess Gloria von Habsburg.

Some posts also shared photographs apparently showing Bilawal and Gloria together and claimed that the images were taken during an event in Vienna in 2024.

However, there is no credible evidence supporting the engagement claim.

On August 31, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressed the reports in a video message posted on his social media accounts.

Bilawal's sister, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, also appeared to respond humorously to his clarification on social media, joking about the reports of her brother's supposed marriage.

A reverse-image search found that the photograph of Gloria von Habsburg used in the viral images was originally published by stock photography website Alamy.

The original photograph was taken in Vienna in June 2024 during an event marking 750 years of the Habsburgs at Palais Ferstel.

The original image shows Gloria von Habsburg separately and does not show her with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Another photograph from the same event shows Gloria with her father Karl Habsburg and his wife Christian Reid.

The claim also generated engagement on Facebook, while a post by South Asia Index on X received around 981,200 views.
